CLiCK (Commercially Licensed Cooperative Kitchen) is pleased to announce its Community Mural Project. The project will invite members of the Windham community of all ages to participate in the design and painting of a mural on the CLiCK building at 41 Club Rd. Windham, CT. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in public art while learning about the sociology and history of food in the area. CLICK is kicking off the mural project by offering FREE classes taught by UConn Sociology professor Dr. Pheobe Godfrey.
The series will examine four stages in the North American food System. Classes will be held every 4th Wednesday of the month from March – June, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at CLiCK. The first class on March 30, Food and the Social Order, will examine the fundamental relationship between food production and the larger social order. Participants may take any or all of the four courses as they choose. Class participants and their guests will be invited to a community pot-luck celebration of food to be held on June 30, 2016.
Slated to begin June, 2016, the CLiCK Community Mural, will be a public mural designed and painted onto CLiCK’s building by residents of Windham, Willimantic and the surrounding towns. The goal of the project is to create a public mural which tells the story of the history and diversity of food in the Windham community, while building engagement through community arts and food in the process. Participants who have engaged in the Sociology of Food series will have the opportunity to use their knowledge and experiences from the classes to help create symbolic aspects of the mural design.
