Dear Members & Friends,
We are pleased to share some news and events for this month. First, congratulations to Jody Ouellette of Windham, whose design was selected for the After-School Ballroom Dance program tee shirts. The image captured the vigorous and joyful art of ballroom dance, yet simultaneously has appeal for the youngsters who will be wearing the shirts. Thank you Jody for your efforts, and to all who took part. We will present the image and more about Jody in the next issue of Art Spectrum.
The exhibit this month in the Windham Hospital gallery is by the Quiet Corner Photography Club. Please stop in to see the beautiful images. For April, we are again featuring a member’s Theme Show, “Treasured Places”. If you are a member and did not receive an entry form, please email us or call Karen Olson at (860) 423-1287.
Our art demonstrations continue at the Buchanan Center at the Mansfield Library. On Saturday, March 19, from 2:00 – 4:00, Cathy Shires will demonstrate the process of Ukrainian Egg decorating, just in time for Easter. Admission is free, but we suggest you bring a notebook or something to record the steps in the process. Mark you calendars for April 16, when Dick Wolf will present the art of wood block printing.
Please watch your mailbox for invitations to our bi-annual Mystery Dinner, to take place on Saturday April 30. Please send responses promptly, as spaces are sure to fill quickly!
Finally, we are pleased to tell everyone of our support to the Windham High School Music Department for their trip to Philadelphia on the weekend of March 31, for the 2016 Philadelphia Heritage Festival. For more information about the itinerary, visit the school music web page at windhammusic.net
The WRAC Board voted unanimously to contribute $1,500.00 from our transportation fund to this worthy cause. Cathy Shires, Feather Spearman, and Lorraine McDevitt visited the school on Monday March 14 to present the check during the Band’s rehearsal and were rewarded with gratitude from the students and teachers, and were serenaded with two songs that will be part of the band’s performance in Philly. We are pleased and proud to help the students who worked so hard to achieve the goal of taking part in this memorable event!
