“These sons of the legendary pianist Dave Brubeck bring a new sound to jazz traditions – complete with spirit, flexibility and an inherited flair…” Chattanooga Outlook
Central to our mission are our free Educational Opera and Symphony Programs. To date, 154,000 local students from 24 Northeastern Connecticut and Massachusetts towns have been treated to complimentary programming. Each year, four thousand school children are introduced to the creative artistries in third and fifth grade. Performing Arts provides early arts exposure and educational opportunities some students might not otherwise receive. The music teacher at each school is provided with a study guide and participating school classes are visited by an artist for an in-school workshop prior to the performance at the Hyde Cultural Center in Woodstock.
These concepts come to life every spring when students attend live, fully-staged productions by the Salt Marsh Opera Company and the New Haven Symphony Orchestra. The New Haven Symphony Orchestra will perform Red White and Brubeck on April 28, 2015 for third graders. Chris Brubeck, of the Brubeck Brothers Quartet performing at the Bradley in May, is the guest artist for the educational symphony program this year. Fifth graders will be treated to Mozart’s The Magic Flute, performed by Salt March Opera, on May 19, 2015. In Mozart’s final triumph, adventure, mystery and music weave an enchanted story that’s engaging for students and teachers alike.
Your contributions keep the curtain open and allow students accessibility to professional arts programming. Funding is primarily community based through area business and private donations, in-kind gifts, grants and local fundraisers.
