Fire up your ovens and get baking! No matter your age or ability, you are invited to bake your favorite chocolate cake for the 13th annual chocolate cake baking contest that will occur on Saturday, February 11th, 2017 in conjunction with the Romantic Willimantic Chocolate Festival and the Windham Town 325th Birthday Year of Celebration!
Ruth Hartunian-Alumbaugh (www.musicandmoreint.com), Taste of Home Field Editor and Willimantic’s local self-deemed Cookie Queen, will chair this event that takes place at the Kerri Gallery located at 861 Main St., Willimantic, CT. Drop your cake off between 9am and 10am and include a list of ingredients, too. Pre-registration ($5) is up until February 7th but walk-ins are welcome, too ($10). Please write “cake contest” on the bottom of your check. Include your name, address, phone number, and age category you want to enter in. The category of child is up to age 12, young adult is 13-19 years old, adult is 20 years old and up, and the 325th Windham Town Anniversary Theme Cake is for any age category and will be judged for appearance ONLY. Fees go towards prizes and seed next year’s competition. Prizes will be awarded at 2pm. Cakes that are bid on (starting at $10) can be picked up by 2:30pm.
The stellar lineup of judges is VERY impressive! Rachael LaPorte, CliCK director and co-owner of Simply Fresh, Robert Landolphi from UCONN Dining Services and infamous gluten free published baker, and Jennifer White from Willimantic’s newest hot spot for tea, coffee, and great food, Leaf and Flour will be our panel of judges. Over twenty cakes are already awaiting their taste buds. Yours can be one, too!
