POMFRET (March 27, 2014)—Working in a variety of mediums, students in the AP Arts curriculum at Pomfret School will have their best efforts showcased when their AP Art group show, Portfolio, opens at P.S. ART in Putnam’s Silver Circle Gallery and Art Center in Putnam, Conn., on Tuesday, April 29, 2014. The exhibit will include paintings, photographic compilations, and sculptures—all deemed portfolio-worthy—by students enrolled in the advanced studio painting, sculpture and photography program offered at the school.
Portfolio represents a year-long commitment to exploring a particular theme or style, and celebrates the talents and accomplishments of Pomfret’s young artists. Nearly thirty students are represented. Among the paintings are still-lifes and figures; students in the yearlong 2D photography class selected a theme and, using Photoshop as a creative tool, made digital compilations. Sculpture students, also having chosen a theme, worked in a variety of materials, from plastic spoons to clay, cardboard, and wire. Their teachers are JP Jacquet, Lindsay Lehmann, and Kathi Yokum—painting, photography, and sculpture, respectively.
P.S. ART, featuring the works of Pomfret School students and faculty, is made possible through the generous support of the School community. “Portfolio” runs from April 29 – July 28, 2014, with an artists reception on Friday, May 2, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM, at the Silver Circle Gallery and Art Center, 75 Main Street in Putnam, Conn. Gallery hours are Wednesday-Saturday, 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM and Sundays, noon to 4:00 PM.
