About the Exhibit:
The 4th Annual Figurative Exhibit will feature paintings, drawings and sculpture from artists Bud Cook, Nora Ferragatta St. Jean, Jean-Paul Jacquet, Ashleigh Kay, Jacqueline Lucier, Leila Namin, Sky Power, Karen Reid, and Nicholas Swearer. This show will provide an opportunity to appreciate each artist’s distinctive style and perspective through exploration of the figure and its form.
Bud Cook is a painter and illustrator living in Northeast CT whose past clients include Wizards of the Coast, Dark Horse Comics and Image Comics. “The process of how a piece evolves is important to me. The way a previous layer helps to define what comes next, yet still shows through in the final piece.”
Nora Ferragatta St. Jean is an accomplished artist whose extensive traditional studies in Italy and the US have led her to work for various corporate clients. Nora continues to create new designs and paintings in custom oil on
canvas/linen, murals, portraits, and reproductions, and displays work in galleries and restaurants throughout New England, Belgium, and Italy.
Jean-Paul Jacquet is a painter and a sculptor who is an artist-in-residence at Pomfret School in Pomfret, CT. His sculptures have been prominently displayed at the Convergence Arts Festival in Providence RI, on the Madison Mile
in Madison CT, the Walchem Corporation in Holliston, MA, as well as in countless private collections throughout New England. He spent time working for the band PHISH, creating large-scale sculptures for a number of their national tours. His paintings are in numerous private collections and can be seen locally in a number of venues, including the Vanilla Bean Café in Pomfret, CT, 85 Main Restaurant in Putnam, CT, and annually at the Silver Circle Gallery in Putnam, CT.
Ashleigh Kay In addition to being an exhibiting artist, Ashleigh Kay is also the Marketing & Outreach Coordinator of the Silver Circle Art Center. She has a BFA in Painting from The Hartford Art School at The University of Hartford,
and has been actively engaged in the local arts community while exhibiting her work locally and internationally.
Jacqueline Lucier is a life-long artist whose paintings have been on the cover of The Gold Pages Directory, the juried 2010 Annual CT Artists Exhibition at Slater Memorial Museum, and on the pages of an inspirational book by Michael
Barrett. As a board member of the Northeast CT Art Guild, many of Ms. Lucier’s paintings have been exhibited throughout the area and hang in numerous homes in New England and Florida.
Leila Namin received a B.F.A in painting from the Fine Art University of Tehran, Iran and an M.F.A in painting from Massachusetts College of Art and Design in 2012. Leila uses the figures in her work as characters on a mission, lost and
disconnected from their space, and part of a silent act. “I want to show the theatricality of a moment – – of a scene. Humans become metaphors, living through their minds and responding to their limitations.” Leila is an award-winning painter who was listed in the “6 to watch” by The Boston Globe in August 2012.
Sky Power is an acclaimed Provincetown, MA based painter who has been an exhibiting artist since 1974 and has shown work in galleries in Provincetown, Boston, and Washington, D.C. Power paints contrasting elements in her
abstract works which “represent the wholeness of our opposites, the duality within humankind, and the balance of my nature.” Initially creating paintings intuitively, Sky’s process becomes more analytical and “the experience
feels like unraveling a mystery by creating one, all a part of my inner journey.”
Karen Reid is a graduate from The School of the Museum of Fine Arts Boston and has worked as an artist for various companies while exhibiting regionally and teaching painting classes at the Silver Circle. Karen paints intuitively by “tapping into an emotion or feeling that channels through the color, gesture and form that develops on my canvas.”
Nicholas Swearer is a bronze sculptor whose nude “Humans” have received international media attention from such institutions at the NY Times for their political and social commentary. As part of larger narrative installations, each
archetypal character is an icon for an emotional or physical state or for an action. When grouped they hold more meaning as a didactic investigation of our times and the human condition.
Silver Circle Gallery is located at 75 Main Street in Downtown Putnam, CT. Since 2008, Silver Circle has been a fresh, contemporary space where local and regional visual artists convene to show and sell their work, educate others, and inspire one another and the community. Silver Circle is a community partner with Windham Arts as the Regional Arts Center for northeastern CT.
