Artist Statement:

“This show is inspired by moments shared with those I feel closest to: my wife, children, and our good friends and family. Starting my own family five years ago seemed to take a toll on my work, however every precious moment in its creation produced a wealth of inspiration.  Between sleepless nights, long days, and the self-editing of fatherhood, new phrases, images, and adventures with “la famille” proved to provide a wealth of subject matter”.

Artist Bio:

Born in Ilesha, Nigeria in 1966 to an American mother working for the Peace Corp and a French father who operated a small sawmill, Jean-Paul is the oldest of four boys whose family relocated to Bordeaux, France in 1973 and then to Danville, Vermont in 1976.

After graduating Cum Laude with a BFA in illustration from Syracuse University in 1984, Jean-Paul travelled throughout Europe working as a freelance illustrator. Upon returning to the states, he continued working in NYC and as the Assistant Art Director to the Trump Shuttle and Eastern Airline Magazines. Jean-Paul eventually relocated to Providence, RI to focus on the fine arts.

In September of 2000, Jean-Paul accepted employment as an Artist in Residence at Pomfret School. Since joining the Fine Arts Department, he has taught all levels of painting and drawing.

Jean-Paul is a painter and a sculptor who works in two varying styles. His sculptures have been prominently displayed at the Convergence Arts Festival in Providence RI for three consecutive years, and on the Madison Mile, in Madison CT for two consecutive years. Several of his Paper Airplane sculptures are in private collection throughout New England. A 160′ long mural adorns the halls of Walchem Corporation in Holliston, MA. He spent time working for the band PHISH, creating large scale sculptures for a number of their national tours. His paintings can be seen locally in a number of venues, including the Vanilla Bean Café in Pomfret, CT and 85 Main Restaurant in Putnam, CT.
