The Windham Theatre Guild Presents
EDUCATING RITA
By Willy Russell
March 25, 2013: The Windham Theatre Guild welcomes in Spring with an award-winning comedy. It’s
Educating Rita by Willy Russell, opening Friday, April 5th at the Burton Leavitt Theater.
The play has two characters: Rita, a spirited young hairdresser from Liverpool who yearns desperately for
an education and Frank, a cynical career academic whose disillusioned outlook on life drives him to drink
and bury himself in his books. After weeks of cajoling, Rita slowly wins over the very hesitant Frank with
her innate insight and refusal to accept no for an answer. Their relationship as teacher and student blossoms,
ultimately giving Frank a new sense of self and Rita the knowledge she so craves. The play became a hit film
with Michael Caine and Julie Walters.
Laura LaCour is Directing this wonderful production. Most recently seen as singer Patsy Cline in the past
WTG production of Always, Patsy Cline, Laura is glad to go back to directing. She was the creative force
behind Aida, I Hate Hamlet, and The Complete Works of William Shakepeare. Her cast features
Brian Ballou from East Hampton as Frank and Rachel Szostek from New Britain as Rita.
Some strong language is used in the production. Show dates are April 5, 6, 12 & 13, 2013 at 8 PM, April
7 & 14, 2013 at 2 PM and April 11, 2013 at 7:30 PM. Tickets are $17 for Adults, $14 for Students/Seniors
