EASTCONN’s Capitol Theater Arts Academy (CTAA) Annual
Spring Dance Showcase, May 18 & 19
The public is invited to celebrate spring when EASTCONN’s Capitol
Theater Arts Academy (CTAA) presents its annual Spring Dance Showcase on Sat. and
Sun., May 18 and 19, 2013, at the Capitol Theater, 896 Main St., in Willimantic.
Featuring 64 young dancers, ages 4 to 16, from across northeastern Connecticut,
CTAA’s Spring Dance Showcase will take place at 4 p.m. on Sat., May 18, and at 2 p.m.
on Sun., May 19. General admission tickets are $10; tickets for students and seniors are
$8. For tickets and information, contact Jessica Folta at 860-465-5636.
With as many as 16 dancers onstage at a time, the Showcase will offer
performances in ballet, hip hop, modern, jazz and tap. Dancers will fill the Capitol
Theater stage with pieces set to music from Alice in Wonderland, the American Song
Book and popular music from the 1960’s through today.
Showcase dance pieces were choreographed by CTAA dance instructors Alana
Mahdalik, Amy Chibeau, and Rachel L. Roccoberton. The Youth Dance Ensemble will
also perform new and old works under the direction of Mahdalik.
CTAA dance students are from Andover, Brooklyn, Columbia, Coventry,
Killingly, Lebanon, Mansfield, Scotland, Willimantic, Willington and Windham.
CTAA serves northeastern Connecticut residents, ages 3 and up. Classes are
taught by some of Connecticut’s finest arts professionals, who help students explore the
arts through dance, theater, cartooning, creative writing and individual music lessons.
Classes are offered in fall, spring and summer sessions at EASTCONN’s Art Deco-era
Capitol Theater, which houses the CTAA program. Registration is now open for CTAA
Summer Programs including sessions in dance, costuming and Musical Theater.
CTAA is an arts education outreach program of EASTCONN, a public, non-profit
agency that has been serving the education needs of northeastern Connecticut’s schools,
and communities since 1980. Visit www.eastconn.org.
