STORRS, June 12, 2013 –The Community School of the Arts (CSA) at the University of Connecticut in Storrs is offering a variety of fun and educational half-day and whole-day week-long programs, and mini-workshops for children of all ages beginning the week of June 24.
A Day at the Beach is the theme of this year’s Arts Explorers, CSA’s popular week-long visual arts programs where students create drawings, paintings, and paper crafts inspired by shoreline nature. All workshops involve both individual and group processes and build on the basic elements and principles of art. A ceramic workshop will be offered one afternoon each week; and family and friends are invited to an informal art exhibit at 4 p.m. on the final day of each week. Fees for each week are $395 for a full day, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. or $197.50 for a half day, either 9 a.m.-12 p.m. or 1-4 p.m.. Free before and after care is also available.
Marshes, mammals and Birds will be the focus during the Arts Explorers week of July 8-12. Projects led by Barbara Timberman, Rachel Clark and Sherie Gage include papier mache cranes and flamingos, hand puppets based on the book The Wind in the Willows, Owl paper masks, ceramic bird pinch pots, dragonfly window charms and tie-dye great blue heron wall hangings. Arts Explorers is held at CSA on the Depot Campus of the University of Connecticut, 3 Witryol, Place, Storrs.
“Cinderella” a Musical Theater Workshop led by Amanda Hanzlik will be held at E.O.Smith High School in Mansfield. The week-long full-day workshop for boys and girls will recreate the timeless classic, Disney style, as Cinderella and friends sing and dance their way from a cottage hearth to the castle ballroom. The workshop will be held the week of July 8-12 from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. The fee is $395. No before or after care is available for this program.
Summer Pottery II for teens and adults will be offered weekly beginning June 25 or 27, Tuesdays or Thursdays from 7-9 p.m. for $190 on the depot campus.
